Arithmetics and development could sway TN elections

Political observers feel that the Assembly election in Tamil Nadu, to be held on May 8th, will not be fought merely on development issues or an achievement scorecard. Local, communal issues, apart from electoral arithmetics, seem to be gaining the upper hand.
Chief minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa has done a good job on the fiscal, economic, industrial, social and infrastructural fronts. The governor’s address to the state Assembly, the interim budget speech of the finance minister and the innumerable press releases issued by the chief minister herself are replete with these achievements.(more...)
