Veeranam: CAG indicts AIADMK govt

The erstwhile Jayalalithaa government in Tamil Nadu was severely indicted by the Comptroller and Auditor General for the delay in finalising the tender for the Veeranam drinking water project to provide succour to water starved Chennai, claimed as a major achievement by her, resulting in a loss of Rs 246.25 crore to the state exchequer.

The report, tabled in the Tamil Nadu assembly today, came down heavily on the Jayalalithaa government for incurring a total extra expenditure of Rs 295.21 crore for the project.(more...)
